Artistic Partner of the Camerata Bern since 2022, Steven Isserlis ranks among the most charismatic cellists of our time. Raised in a world steeped in music, he brings the most delightful anecdotes to life in his vivid and engaging books. One favourite involves his grandfather, the pianist Julius Isserlis, who arrived in Vienna from Russia with Steven’s father in the early 1920s – only to be turned away by a 102-year-old landlady, just when he thought he had finally found a place to live. Her reason? Her aunt had once taken in a musician who turned out to be far too loud. His name: Ludwig van Beethoven!
